My Husband Said “The Comfort Is Over” and Gave Away Half My Paycheck—Then His Mother Came for Sunday Lunch

I hugged her.

For the first time since the argument, I felt something loosen inside me.

Not forgiveness for Daniel.

Not yet.

But peace.

Three months after that Sunday lunch, Daniel came home carrying a cardboard box.

He placed it on the dining room table.

“What is that?”

“Everything.”

I opened it.

Inside were envelopes.

Bank statements.

Receipts.

Old bills.

A notebook.

And a printed spreadsheet.

Daniel sat across from me.

“I went through our last seven years.”

My stomach tightened.

“What did you find?”

He exhaled.

“I found something embarrassing.”

“What?”

“You weren’t exaggerating.”

I looked at him.

“I know.”
