“It is.”

I looked at him.

“Why do you have it?”

He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he flipped several pages.

The handwriting changed.

Not my mother’s.

Someone else’s.

Black ink instead of blue.

Numbers were circled.

Some had stars beside them.

And one sentence had been written across the top in capital letters:

DO NOT SHOW TORI.

My stomach tightened.

“Danny.”

He rubbed both hands over his face.

“I found it in Dad’s office.”

“Why were you in Dad’s office?”

“Because Mom told me to clean it out.”

That sentence hung between us.

I looked back at the notebook.
