I Found a “Happy Anniversary” Letter in My Husband’s Jacket—But We Had Been Married 21 Years, Not Nine

I was sorting my husband Daniel’s clothes for laundry when a card slipped from his jacket.

It landed faceup beside my feet.

At first, I almost put it on his dresser without reading it.

Then I saw the handwriting.

Elegant.

Feminine.

And the first two words stopped me.

Happy anniversary.

I picked up the card.

“Happy anniversary, darling. These nine years have been the best of my life. Meet me at Le Jardin on Friday at 7 p.m. Wear red.”

For several seconds, I simply stared at it.

Nine years.

Daniel and I had been married for twenty-one.

There was no name at the bottom.
